There are certain things in our wardrobes that we reserve for special occasions. That cocktail dress you save for strictly weddings or those wingtip shoes that you only wear to your cousins’ Bar Mitzvahs make a special appearance once a season, maybe twice if they’re lucky. They then get cast to the back of your closet for the rest of the year, sadly sitting there until your next big occasion arises.
And while you may wisely elect to not pull out that sparkly ball gown from your senior prom to wear to class, there are other garments that can be easily incorporated into your everyday outfits. Peacoats, for both men and women, are definitely one of them.
Peacoats are often saved for date nights or interviews, but in actuality are quite functional for any outfit. Though I personally embrace trying to dress up as often and as frequently as possible, a peacoat can take on more than just a formal look. While some may think they are too dressy for daily wear, there are simple ways to alter your look if casual is the goal.
This Fashionisto effortlessly creates an outfit that is simple, yet sharp. His coat and intricately tied scarf may seem a little too much for day-to-day wear, but they balance quite nicely with his choice of slightly more informal green pants and blue TOMS shoes. Together, the multiple elements of his outfit make him look quite put together and ready to face a long day of classes or work.
Hint: Just because you might not have an interview everyday doesn’t mean that you have to forgo the peacoat from your combination. Embrace it with all your outfits even the more casual ones.
