It may still be winter, but trends for spring 2014 are already surfacing. One trend for spring that has been growing amongst Fashionistos is neon. The bright hued fashion trend has been popping up in everything from collared shirts to brightly colored sunglasses. It seems neon-embracers are showing themselves all over college campuses and with it not even being spring yet we can only predict that this trend will continue to grow.
Before college men started rocking this trend around campus, designers like Ralph Lauren and Louis Vuitton were showing it on their runways. Both designer labels showcased neon in their own way. The Ralph Lauren spring 2014 men’s collection included a lot of bright pants and tops. Where as the Louis Vuitton collection presented neon through colorful bags—proving the versatility of how neon can be worn.
If you are a fan of this trend, but aren’t ready to dive completely in to the neon pool, then think about incorporating neon in to your accessories. For a less casual look, try wearing a neon colored tie. If you do choose to go the accessory route, choose neutral colored clothing to pair with your bright accessory. This way your neon piece will be more of a statement, creating a focal point within the look. Backpacks are also a great way to ease into wearing the trend. Herschel Supply Co. has a grey and neon-yellow backpack that would easily add some oomph to a simple, everyday outfit.
Our Fashionisto also embraced the neon trend in a subtler way with his neon-embellished shoes. He paired his Cole Hann oxfords with a pair of brown jeans and a blue cardigan, all layered over a red-collared shirt. What makes his outfit work is how our Fashionisto paired together the colors in his ensemble. The major colors in his outfit are blue, red and yellow. These are all primary colors and generally go great together. He also kept his pants neutral, which prevented an overwhelming look.
Hint: Not every neon-donning outfit has to be subtle. This trend might be bold, but finding wearable pieces are easy. Try taking a fashion risk by choosing a neon sportcoat or slacks. Leaving your fashion comfort zone might feel strange at first, but it can have some pretty rad benefits (looking super trendy for one). So try rocking something that you normally wouldn’t—you might end up looking better than you think.
