Preppy style has been around as long as the establishment of many of the first universities in the United States. It has evolved into a complete lifestyle and subculture. When this happens, it often times shows itself most prominently in choices in fashion. Being so close to one of the biggest Ivy Leagues in the country, University of Pennsylvania, Drexel fashion has kind of incorporated some of Penn’s prestigious influence. This stud looks like he is set to jet off to East Hampton, New York or Newport, Rhode Island. Here he would be dressed to participate in sailing, golf or tennis. He takes no shame in mixing bold and pastel colors to look classically sophisticated.
What I really love about this Fashionisto’s look is his embroidered shorts. I noticed tiny red figures on them from further away, but didn’t realize until stepping closer that they were small red anchors patterned onto his navy chino shorts. These shorts are a terrific statement piece for summer. The red anchors popped against the dark shorts to add a little quirk to his look. He pairs his oxford button-down and embroidered shorts with classic Sperry Top-Sider boat shoes. The vintage, chestnut brown leather style of these shoes looks best on men, and it adds more character when they appear worn. They are definitely a staple for New England preppy style and are also quite functional for nautical activities. The anchors and Sperry’s established a nautical nod that made me want to stick this cutie right on a boat and sail away with him.
Hint: Pastel pink and navy are commonly combined in a prepster’s uniform. Check out Vineyard Vines’ collection of assorted pastel oxfords for more stylish options.
