This summer, we’ve seen everything from monochromatic prints to bright and bold color-blocking fill the wardrobes of Fashionistos. However, I believe it is imperative to remember that neutrals are the backbone of everyone’s wardrobe. Sometimes it’s easier to stick to one color that works and add to it but why not rock neutrals and a little bit of monochrome? After all, doesn’t wearing two looks make you two times as fashionable? It definitely worked for this stylish summer student who made one outfit a combination of two different summer trends.
The lower half of this look uses one simple color in different shades, that is, a brown out. Chinos are an obvious and easy go-to. They’re comfortable, trendy and come in a million and one different colors. This Fashionisto chose a caramel colored fitted pair that just so happened to match his post-beach week summer tan. With the base of his outfit determined, a matching pair of tan lace-ups and a brown leather watchstrap brings the bottom half of his look together.
However, the upper half is an edgy mix of black, white and gray. Using a mix of graphics in gray and white give off that laissez-faire summer vibe. A black belt breaks up the caramel chinos and the white T-shirt. The gray and white graphic top is fitted yet evidently comfortable. A nylon graphite messenger bag gives this stylish student a little more room to pack a gym outfit or swim trunks for an afternoon summer outing.
While this may seem like a fashion faux pas, I believe that the devil is in the details and that the accessories complete the overall look. A gold chain and pendant along with classic gold-rimmed aviators bring the two elements of this outfit together. A little bit of a warm hue juxtaposed by some black and white makes this fresh look as trendy as it is unique.
Hint: If you want to recreate this look for a smart casual occasion, try a patterned color shirt to break up a neutral bottom.
