One of the challenges of living in Indiana, where the weather has constant mood swings and can change from mild to wild in a matter of minutes, is the ability to still look good when the weather gets weird. Bloomington residents have enjoyed a mostly mild summer; however, we have a sweltering week ahead for all of us at Indiana University.
Despite the hot and humid environment, some students rose to the challenge and stood out as stylish as ever. I spotted this style-savvy Fashionisto walking to class and he immediately caught my eye as a fashion innovator and trendsetter. His look is all at once bold, colorful and unique, which sets him apart from many guys on campus and makes him a notable Fashionisto.
This eye-catching look is achieved by mixing and matching colors and prints that work together to create an interesting, yet cohesive outfit. This Fashionisto gives off an effortlessly cool vibe and brings new life to two very different patterns — floral and camouflage. While these patterns might seem random at first, a closer look reveals a strategic connection between the mixes of print and color. The arrangement of the camouflage baseball cap at the top of the outfit, then the floral shirt, camouflage pants (check out these camo pants from Urban Outfitters) and finally the brightly-colored shoes are put together in that way to create a dynamic fashion statement. Yet, the patterns and colors all work together to create balance and stability in the outfit. These bold pieces are framed by tasteful glints of gold accessories like the simple necklace and classic wristwatch (try this watch by Fossil). To finish the look off, add a Levi Brand Jeans denim vest to complete an outfit appropriate for a summer day on campus.
Hint: If you aren’t feeling as brave as this pattern-mixing master, you can always keep the bold patterned shirt on top and take the outfit down a notch by swapping the camouflage pants for a solid color by H&M instead. Just make sure you keep it colorful and your outfit will still pop among the sea of boring matchy-matchyness. Don’t be afraid to mix it up!
