The best part about summer is the carefree attitude everyone has, especially in the way people dress. In the summer you can wear the brightest colors and the boldest patterns without question. One of my personal favorite trends for the season is mixing those bright colors and bold patterns together to create one fabulous outfit. The key to wearing this trend without looking like a train wreck is to make sure all of your pieces have some sort of cohesion. Whether it’s a similar theme (nautical, for example), pattern (like stripes) or, in this Fashionisto’s case, color palette.
This Fashionisto is wearing a purple linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up. The color reminds me of those grape Popsicles I used to eat after I came home from camp when I was a little kid. It is the perfect color for such a summery shirt. Next, he has on blue and white striped shorts. The stripe is very thin and subtle, yet it still adds an element of fun to the outfit as a whole. He pairs these two things with Sperry Top-Siders in a neutral tan color and some white wayfarer sunglasses.
The Reason why this outfit works is because the purple of the shirt and the blue of the shorts complement each other very nicely. Just like how opposite colors look good together, I think that colors in the same tonal family also make a good pair. The cool colors make the outfit look very crisp and refreshing. The neutral colors of the shoes and the sunglasses keep the outfit wearable and from looking too wacky.
Hint: To get a mix and matched outfit like this Fashionisto’s, try printed shorts in a style or color that you like. Next, add a bright top that complements the shorts without being too matchy-matchy. If you’re feeling really daring, you can add a printed shirt instead of a solid one, just be sure that the print of the shirt makes sense with the print of the shorts. Make sure to keep the rest of your outfit neutral when it comes to shoes, sunglasses and other accessories like a hat or backpack.
