When it comes to the weather, fall in Happy Valley can very well be considered the calm before the storm. Temperatures have fallen, but tend to remain in the “warm enough with a light jacket” regions of 40 to 50 degrees. Students throughout campus are enjoying the last few blissful weeks of being able to comfortably move their arms (which are not yet restricted by thick layers and puffy parkas).
I spotted this Fashionisto walking around campus on a somewhat sunnier fall day, sporting a marled-knit sweatshirt and corduroy pants. The marled style knit is one of my favorite current trends, as it adds a little texture and personality to any basic item. He kept a light jacket tucked underneath his arm, preparing himself for any sudden (and likely) drop in the erratic State College temperature. The look is breezy and casual—appropriate for a long day of classes, but right on trend. A stylish pair of sneakers matched in hue to his light sweatshirt, and a pair of thick framed specs helped give off a smart-guy vibe.
Hint: Take a cue from this class-ready Fashionisto and give a marled sweater or knit sweatshirt a try. The material is light and breathable, but still cozy enough for chillier fall temperatures. Some of my personal favorite marled pieces can be found from the likes of J.Crew to Urban Outfitters, and even American Eagle! If you’re loving the marled look and still looking for more ways to keep cozy this fall, try pairing a classic gray marled scarf with a light jacket for a look layered with personality.
