LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Keep The Warmth, Keep The Style

Let's Hear it for the Boys

Winter quarter always seems to be the least exciting here at UC Davis. The weather has become cooler, the newness of school is gone and summer is a distant siren call. It seems that much of the student body has already given up hope of a pleasant quarter and resigned themselves to the dull ten weeks ahead of us. However, the monotony of school, midterms, jobs and 8 am lectures does not need to affect our wardrobes. There is hope for men wanting to keep warm and stylish in the colder months.

Winter clothes may seem like their purpose is more for warmth and comfort than for style, but there is a way to get the best of both worlds. This fashionisto bundled up with care for both comfort and fashion. His windbreaker from Eddie Bauer is practical for beating out winter winds, but allows a retro feel to this look. The sweater from Lands’ End is thickly knit to keep the fashionisto warm while biking to class, but also provides a more polished look and nicely dresses up his khakis. The sweater is also a beautiful deep green color. Jewel tones were a very popular trend last fall and are expected to remain common through the winter. The fashionisto opted for a pair of boat shoes, which offer a nice change from traditional sneakers. They give the outfit an easy-going feel and look more put together than the common gym shoe.

Hint: To achieve this student’s warm ensemble, a jacket-sweater combination is key. Try pairing a windbreaker with a warm cable knit for on-the-go cool. For a more polished look, switch the windbreaker for a blazer with either a sweater or a button-down underneath. To mix things up more, pair a printed sweatshirt over a collared shirt. These tops can be combined with jeans or khakis, depending on one’s desire to either look polished or laid back. Loafers or boat shoes are nice pairings with these looks, as are a pair of updated sneakers with fun laces or a print. While attempting any of these looks, the key is warmth and comfort, but with a more polished, sophisticated edge.
