Global warming has been in full effect in Toronto. After a week of heavy snow, it’s barely apparent that there was any at all. Although this sudden change scares me, I must admit I enjoy that the rain has washed away the slush. It means I can finally wear my suede winter boots. It seems this Fashionisto was also taking advantage of the clear boulevards this week. Today’s Fashionisto, a fourth year political science and history major, took this opportunity to wear his brightly laced ALDO boots. The color is rich, making these boots fun yet classic. The boots were my favorite part of this look, but the Fashionisto was more interested in his Coach messenger bag. The typical, logo-embellished Coach bag is a staple in any girl or guy’s wardrobe. A Coach bag is something that will never go out of style.
We both agreed that we loved this military-inspired trench. It’s s a twist on another classic: the buttons and shoulder straps turn this simple black coat into something completely different. “It’s last season,” says the Fashionisto, “but it carries over.” Military was a huge trend last season, but this Fashionisto made a great choice by choosing a classic shape and style to ensure that it is wearable for years to come. Also, adding trendy accessories can bring any look into the current season. In this look, the Fashionisto adds a check scarf, a huge trend this season. The rich colors complement his blue shoes and stand up to his black coat.
When I ask this Fashionisto about his style, he describes it as classic urban. He expressed his keen interest in fashion, and he went on to tell me that he’s a fashion writer for Veux magazine, based out of Toronto. He got involved in fashion through Toronto Fashion Week as a volunteer. “I’m actually releasing my own line after I graduate this year.” I can see why — this Fashionisto has a classic, timeless style that suits every man.
Hint: For those of you who love this military-inspired trench from last season, I hate to disappoint but it’s no longer available. Instead, try something trendy from this season that will be wearable for years to come. I recommend this denim peacoat. Denim is a huge trend this season, but choosing a peacoat will ensure this jacket is in style long after denim isn’t.
