There’s a certain time of year in Savannah when fall classes are coming to a close, holidays are just around the corner and it’s time to say good-bye to the last pieces of your summer wardrobe in favor of heavier coats and layering pieces. Although the sudden chill settling over the city has got students bundling up, that doesn’t mean that some of your favorite pieces can’t be transformed into your best layering basics.
Graphic tees are always a great way to show your personality, make an impact with color or to identify yourself with a group or cause. This season wearing your ideas, beliefs or feelings on your body is a key trend. At a time when our generation has so much to say, fashion that doubles as an expression of personal views can provoke thought or feeling not only in the wearer but in the viewer as well.
This Fashionisto shows his style by wearing a black graphic tee by Crooks and Castles. The tee features an image of what first appears to be the American flag in a black and white motif. When viewed more closely, it is revealed that the “stars” and “stripes” are actually bullets in frontal and side views.
No matter what statement is being made or how this image reflects the views of the wearer, the graphic nature of the garment makes the viewer think about the message being illustrated. The subjective thought process provoked by wearing this tee gives the bold fashion statement a deeper meaning. This Fashionisto goes for a dark, almost gothic look with black skinny jeans, black Vans, a black knitted beanie and a plain black hoodie layered beneath a distressed denim vest.
Hint: If you’re not into the all-black look, try something a little more fun and quirky to match your style like this untraditional Mickey Mouse tee by NEFF. The new take on a traditional character can serve as the basis for many warm, layered looks.
