As each passing day here at Dayton grows warmer and sunnier, I find myself more and more impressed by the springtime fashions emerging on campus. When I ran into this Fashionisto leaving the library, I was impressed by his sharp image and loved the preppy influence to his outfit.
This Fashionisto models a collegiate yet elegant look by combining various nautical colors and classic menswear items. Instead of opting for denim, he chose a pair of timeless navy blue chinos paired with a complementary light blue button-down that has a soft checked print. I have always had an eye for pastels and light shades of color – particularly hues of blue. To me, this color seems to do favors for anyone who wears it, no matter your skin tone or hair color. I also like to consider this color a neutral, as it matches well with almost any other color or neutral hue you may wear. I definitely suggest incorporating any shade of blue into your look this spring, whether it is navy blue, royal blue, sky blue or a pastel, you’re sure to look your best in this brilliant color.
For the springtime breeze, this Fashionisto sports a gray Banana Republic quarter-zip pullover atop his button-down and gives his dressy ensemble a more casual feel by simply rolling his sleeves. A pair of Sperry Top-Siders does the trick to make this dressy outfit a bit more relaxed, but still keeps it put together.
This Fashionisto wears a classic Kenneth Cole white-faced watch with a leather band to make his look both fashionable and functional. Often, the phrase “less is more” should be applied when pairing accessories with your ensemble, just as this Fashionisto has so effortlessly done.
Hint: For a similarly preppy, put together look that is slightly more dressed down, simply swap out these navy chinos for a pair of corduroy pants or dark wash denim.
