As we settle into the new semester, people on campus really start to show their true colors: garnet and gold. Here at Florida State, the start of football season is the most exciting time of the year; students unite under the promise of victory and school spirit floods the campus. You can’t go to class without seeing someone repping the school colors and you can’t go out at night without hearing someone belt the fight song in the bars. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year, but the most exciting thing for me during this season, is the game day clothes. With all of campus out and about on these days, you’ll want to look your best at Doak Campbell Stadium.
People dawn their best looks for a game and what you wear when you cheer your team on can say a lot about you. There are some people who go all out for game days. The girls wear their dresses and cowboy boots and boys wear their Seminole ties and sports coats. This is great look, especially if it’s a night game when you can go out and celebrate the win straight from the stadium. Another popular outfit is a more simplistic style. An FSU T-shirt and some shorts, perfect for a hot day and mid afternoon kick-off. This is the most common look on campus, because it’s both convenient and spirited. Then there’s my favorite game day outfit, which meets somewhere in the middle. This Fashionisto pulls off the perfect game day look without fail. It’s one of the easiest styles to pull off and it’ll also keep you cool and comfy while cheering on your favorite team. The FSU polos are easy to find in the local sporting goods store or at the campus bookstore. Pair it with some khakis and your favorite kicks and you’re good to go. For earlier games, Ray-Bans will save your eyes from the burning Florida sun and if you’re as lucky as this Fashionisto, who found his stamped leather belt at a flea market, you could pull it all together with another small flash of spirit.
Whether cheering on from the TV, sitting front row at the game or even just trying to show your school some love, this outfit is ideal for showing off your true Seminole pride.
Hint: Are you trying to show your spirit in a more subtle fashion? Easy. Instead of wearing official school clothing, try out a shirt that happens to have the same colors as your favorite team.
