LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Festival Fashion

Let's Hear it for the Boys

Growing up in a small suburb in Connecticut with the nearest city over an hour away, making plans for a weekend with friends was always difficult. Typical activities consisted of going to the movies or hanging out at a friend’s house with an occasional concert or trip to NYC or Boston. Needless to say, going to school in New Orleans was a huge change for me and I would assume the same for most people who are not from NOLA. On any given day or night there are multiple events to attend. Whether someone is in the mood for live music, an eccentric meal, learning history about the city or shopping, there is always something exciting happening.

Spring in New Orleans is one of the best time to visit if you’re a tourist and to explore the city if you’re a student because of the abundance of festivals. Every weekend brings a new opportunity to try new food while relaxing and watching a live performance. Jazz Fest, French Quarter Festival and Poboy Festival are just a few of the favorite events. Each year Tulane hosts Crawfest, our very own on campus festival complete with thousands of pounds of boiled crawfish and a variety of bands. In addition to food and music, these events are a chance for students to show off their best style. Everyone wants to look their best and this week’s Fashionisto shows a perfect example of what to wear to a festival.

A graphic T-shirt is a staple for a music festival. I was intrigued by this Fashionisto’s T-shirt and discovered that it comes from Eleven Paris’s “Mustache Tees” collection. Whether you like Johnny Depp or want a quirkier T-shirt with a cartoon character this site has unique pieces perfect for creating an original look. For something a little more subtle, you can check out their triangle city T-shirt collection. Comfort is a big concern for festivals and so his casual blue shorts and slip-on navy blue shoes work perfectly.

This Fashionisto’s accessories stood out to me when I first spotted him. While headphones aren’t necessary for a music festival, oversized headphones are a popular trend for this spring, especially brightly colored styles. Baseball caps are also a classic accessory for men and the pop of color on this student’s hat adds a lot to his outfit.

Hint: Festivals often last until after the sun goes down and the temperatures drop so layering is a must. For a casual laid back look, add a flannel or denim shirt to keep warm.
