At the top of my iTunes list is Justin Timberlake’s debut single, “Suit & Tie,” from his new album The 20/20 Experience. The music video captures the style of a dapper young man–clean cut and suited up–who is ready for a night out. I notice more Fashionistos around campus who sport their own take on professional attire.
This Fashionisto added his own twist on the typical suit and tie look. He wore a well-fitted gray blazer. Underneath his blazer, he added a pop of color with a lavender oxford button-down shirt. This lavender worked perfectly against the paleness of the gray blazer. Most guys shy away from colored button-down shirts. The color palette of your outfit is what draws attention to your personal style. Don’t be afraid to stray away from neutral colors, instead trying vibrant ones.
He chose a pair of dark gray khaki pants. He cuffed the bottom of his pants to bring attention to his penny loafers. Rather than wear a typical pair of black slacks, this pair helped dress him down while maintaining a business-casual look.
This Fashionisto finished off his look with a fedora hat. Hats are risky to wear–they attract so much attention. However, this hat helped keep his look classy. This Fashionisto definitely exuded confidence while sporting this accessory.
Hint: Summer is approaching, so it’s time to search for internships. Recreate this Fashionisto’s look for an interview by adding a tie or bow-tie. You can find either of these neckwear at Macy’s. Also, consider wearing a pair of black slacks or dress shoes, depending on how formal your interview will be. Otherwise, nothing is wrong with keeping your look casual and comfortable, like this Fashionisto!
