Each year when fall rolls around, most people are excited for cooler weather, pumpkin-flavored everything, huge Thanksgiving feasts with their families and the changing colors of the leaves. True Fashionistas and Fashionistos are excited for different reasons. They are eager to push their summer wardrobes to the back of their closets and pull out scarves, boots and trendy sweaters. Instead of impatiently waiting to see the trees change color outside, they impatiently wait for the classic fall colors to come back in style.
This Fashionisto is no exception. He is already sporting a fall classic: plaid. His plaid shirt is a mix of another fall classic, burnt orange, and a major fall 2013 trend, burgundy. He pairs this traditional fall flannel with a pair of trendy slim-fitting chino pants. He is shifting from the summer trend of brightly colored pants and heading back to the classic black trouser to show everyone that he is ready for fall!
When walking around campus, he makes it clear that he has ditched his summer sandals by pulling the ensemble together with a pair of warm chestnut Oxford shoes.
His timeless attire, along with his dapper top-heavy haircut, makes him the epitome of the fall 2013 Fashionisto. This fall, Fashionistos are setting themselves apart from the masses by not attempting to apply every single trend to their wardrobe. Instead, true Fashionistos are sticking to the classics and sprinkling in a few of those trends here and there. This Fashionisto is definitely in on this fashion movement. His look is made up of classic fall pieces, but each with a modern twist. The trendy pop of burgundy against the burnt orange in his shirt is the perfect combination of colors for this season. He chose a classic pair of black dress pants but in a slightly slimmer fit than the traditional style. He certainly understands the importance of bringing your style back to the basics.
This fall, instead of rummaging through the piles of trends and struggling to mix and match all of the different styles of the season, take a cue from this Fashionisto and try to take it back to the basics. Don’t be afraid to tone it down on the trends and stick to the classics. With this fashion strategy, you’ll never go out of style!
Hint: To make sure you have an appropriate ratio of classic pieces to trendy pieces in an ensemble, try to limit the trends to one or two per outfit. If you keep the trends to a minimum, they will stand out in your look and, consequentially, you will stand out as well!
