Sometimes I forget that denim isn’t just worn in the form of jeans and today’s Fashionisto reminds me of that. One of biggest trends I’ve been seeing in stores this year is the jean jacket. The classic staple from my childhood wardrobe is making a comeback for cool guys everywhere. This college guy shows us how to wear this must-have item.
Today’s jean jacket is meant to be worn in a laid-back manner. I’ve been seeing lots of jean jackets worn with hoodies like this Fashionisto demonstrates. It gives guys the freedom to wear their favorite baggy hoodie but still have a finished look thanks to the jean jacket on top of it. He’s wearing a gray hoodie that makes the jacket stand out more. He’s added a graphic T-shirt underneath to go for a layered look. This is especially practical. Between Tampa’s hot and humid weather and the major air-conditioning that is blasted all summer long, wearing three layers makes it easy to take off or put back on a layer depending on your comfort level.
Some loose-fitting khaki pants and some Converse sneakers finish off the look. He looks urban and cool but not like he’s trying too hard. Notice that the gray shoes and hoodie go together but the pops of red and black on the shoes break it up and prevent it from being too matchy-matchy.
Tip: Just like wash of jeans, the wash of a jean jacket is important. A light wash serves as a nod to the ’80s and ’90s. Thrift shops and consignment stores are the best places to find light-wash jackets. Medium washes are universal and can be dressed up or down. Dark wash jackets are comparable with blazers since they have a crisp and more polished look.
