While everyone tends to be well-dressed at Miami, I will admit it can get kind of boring. There’s a general uniform of khaki pants at Miami, as opposed to sweatpants or jeans at other schools. While it’s great that everyone dresses so well, I definitely think all the girls would appreciate some variety. In a recent interview, my two interviewers who both happened to be guys, asked me what advice I would give them about dressing. I told them to add some variety! One of the interviewers happened to be wearing a bow tie, which was perfect.
Taking a cue from my interviewer, this Fashionisto decided to switch up his look by swapping his khakis for corduroy pants. While they might look like khaki pants from afar, when you get close, you can realize the difference in texture. Corduroy is formed by channels of velvet material, so it looks like there are gaps, or cords, in between the velvet. The best part about wearing cords is that their texture makes them more interesting and fun that jeans or khakis.
Aside from their texture, this Fashionisto showcases how cords can be worn as neutrals, just like jeans or khakis. This Fashionisto paired his cords with a basic navy long sleeve shirt. But he added a bright pop of color with red shoes. Notice how this Fashionisto swapped out the normal laces for bright yellow laces for a subtle pop of color and contrast.
Hint: If you want to be extra bold with your cords, opt for a colored pair. The most common colors are black and tan, so try a blue or any other color. But we warn that white corduroy pants stain very easily!
