Perfect layering? Check. Calm and dark tones to match the weather outside? Check. A completely cool and relaxed outfit? Check. This Fashionisto pulled together a great look that’s appropriate for any full day of classes.
I’ve seen a lot of layering among several Fashionistos this past semester, and this one has carried on the tradition of having just the right amount of pieces with the right color combinations. The three pieces on the top are so minimalistic alone, but they add a lot of dimension to the outfit when they are styled together.
On top of a black and white striped tank, he adds a simple blue hoodie. As another layer to protect against the random torrential downpour that day, he sports a simple navy blue raincoat. Here in North Carolina, our mornings are very chilly and then the days transition into warm afternoons. It’s important to have multiple pieces for the varying weather conditions. Even though you may get tired of carrying around an extra jacket later in the day, you’ll be thankful when you walk into a freezing classroom.
His choice of pants are a pair of gray wash jeans that he has nicely cuffed on the bottom. This is a trick that can give your look a little more character and it looks great with oxfords and loafers. Of course, nothing could complete this look better than a classic pair of men’s rain boots. Land’s End and L.L. Bean carry similar styles.
Hint: To recreate this look, you need very simple pieces. Going to the “basics” section of any store should do the trick. This V-neck from H&M comes in nineteen different colors. The classic American Apparel hoodie comes in more colors than necessary. A thin shirt or tank serves as the base, a hoodie or button-down is the perfect middle piece, and a simple coat works as the best final layer. This is the look to bring out on days when you feel comfortable and at ease, and you want your clothing to reflect that.
