LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Combating the Cold

Let's Hear it for the Boys

As a girl who has always had long hair, I never felt the need for earmuffs or hats.  My hair acts as a cold-weather-blocker of sorts. Most men don’t have that luxury so it’s important for them to get the right cold weather accessories to bundle up during this time of year. According to GQ, the right coat and scarf are essentials for every guy this winter.

This Fashionisto is battling winter by wrapping up in a thick scarf and a versatile peacoat.  The colors of the scarf pop against the grey coat and make it the focal point of the outfit. You can let a scarf hang around your shoulders or wrap yourself up in it (check out this scarf-tying guide for more ideas on how to wear this particular cold-weather accessory). Thin or thick, wool or cotton, there is a scarf out there for every person and every outfit. For a scarf similar to what this Fashionisto chose, check out Forever 21. This reversible scarf from J.C. Penney is a great two-for-one deal that has double the potential of other scarves. Gap also has a wide variety of men’s scarves for every occasion.

Great outfits get concealed by big warm jackets during these chilly months so it’s important to choose the right one.  The aim is comfort and warmth, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of jackets out there that are both practical and stylish. Peacoats, like the one this Fashionisto is sporting, are a great way to be fashionable and warm at the same time. Good winter coats are something worth spending a little extra money on because you’ll definitely get good use out of them. Macy’s and Target have men’s peacoats that provide the function and comfort that any Fashionisto needs to get him through until March.

While I’m sure many people would agree with me when I say I can’t wait for summer, shopping for and wearing winter accessories make the cold weather a little more enjoyable. Are you and your closet prepared for the rest of the season?

Hint: It’s easy to let the grey skies of winter influence your outfit choices. Dark shades of colors that are typically worn in the winter can be offset with a bright colored accessory like a scarf or hat.
