Let's Hear it for the Boys

One of my biggest pet peeves is when students do not dress appropriately for class. I know we all have days where we are running late because our alarm didn’t go off, the class before ran late etc. But being a fashion student, I will never understand why some people feel the need to wear sweatpants and sweatshirts to class every single day.

Why should you attempt to dress nicely for class? There are lots of reasons. First off, most professors take the time to dress nicely for class. Think about it. When was the last time you saw one of your professors in sweats? The students who dress nicely for class are showing respect to their professor and sending a positive message to them.

Another good reason to look like you put some effort into your outfit is that you never know who you will meet. The four (or more like five, these days) years you spend on a college campus, you will meet so many different people. You could run into a future employer and like a lot of students do, their future spouse. I don’t know about you, but if I run into my future husband, in twenty years when he is thinking about the first time he saw me, I don’t want him to remember how I looked in sweats.

This Fashionisto was definitely showing his professors some respect during the first week of classes. I absolutely loved his khakis pants and maroon sweater combo. Because the weather in northeast Ohio can be well, freezing, to say the least, he opted for an amazing shearling coat to keep warm. The way he rolled the bottom of his khakis to show off those awesome brown shoes was perfection! But my favorite part of his outfit was definitely how he accessorized with a blue and white check scarf.

Hint: Stick to an awesome color palette. Whether it be classic neutrals like this outfit, or beach-like pastels in the spring. You don’t have to go all out like this Fashionisto did, but wearing a nice sweater and some nice dark jeans never hurt anyone!
