Classic, sleek and professional, these are the three words used by this week’s Fashionisto to describe his style. Unless the career fair is going on there isn’t usually an abundance of students in suit or ties walking around campus. But, this Fashionisto brings modern, real world style into his daily outfits with a vest, tie and tie bar.
Celebrities such as Ryan Gosling and David Beckham often go for this look. They often wear a shirt and tie for their day-to-day look. It is classic, but more dressed down and it comes off as less business-y and more stylish. It’s like the three-piece suit, but you leave the jacket at home. You can really make a vest and shirt look cool with different varieties of outfits. It can be worn with dark jeans, over T-shirts and even with shorts for these warmer months! The business inspired style just looks plain good.
Vests are popular for men. I have talked about vests as outerwear, but now we are looking into them for more of a stylish addition to the outfit. Brands and designers such as Paul Smith, Neil Barette, Band of Outsiders and Rag & Bone have filled higher end stores with vests.
This Fashionisto emphasized the value of first impressions, and that dressing with a professional vibe gives off confidence. Plus, what better a way to transition from day to night. His style makes me think of an evening out for drinks, and because we aren’t in New York City, Café 210 anyone?
My absolute favorite part of this Fashionisto’s outfit is the tie bar. With shows like Mad Men and Boardwalk Empire reviving the trend, tie bars are coming back in style and have been in stores more and more. It is a great accessory for men to change up their look and stand out. It’s an accessory similar to a watch because it still very masculine. Tie bars are young, fresh and make your shirt and tie combination much cooler.
The tie bar has been seen on multiple GQ magazine covers, on Channing Tatum, LeBron James, Leonardo DiCaprio and Joseph Gordon-Levitt just to name a few. And if you’re on the GQ cover, you must be doing something right.
Hint: Experimenting with business casual now is a great way to practice for the future! Offices are becoming more dressed down these days, but don’t resort to being sloppy, the business look has so many ways to look dress down, but also put together.
