Spring has officially sprung here at Kent State and although it has brought us sunshine on some days, unfortunately it has filled most other days with rain. Which, from a fashion standpoint, has meant raincoats, boots and umbrellas of every color, print and pattern. (Not that I’m complaining!) The looks I’ve seen around campus have been casual and comfortable and this week’s Fashionisto was no exception. He sported a simple look with catchy colors that was both functional and appealing.
When it comes to dressing casually, there are tons of apparel pieces that are extremely easy to wear, yet still look put together. This Fashionisto is sporting one great example, the flannel. This piece in particular has made its way through the decades. It was the go-to item in any ’90s grunge wardrobe and is now still a popular piece among both men and women. Its soft, durable fabric makes it comfortable to wear on its own or as a layering piece in the colder months. Available in a variety of colors, flannels are typically made in plaid, which is a great print for casual menswear.
This Fashionisto paired his blue, plaid flannel with a pair of light washed, slim denim and tan canvas sneakers. His look is fitted and well coordinated, while still being comfortable and functional for whatever activities he has planned for the day. An outfit like this can be worn in a multitude of ways and can work on almost anybody type. By putting together a few key pieces, such as these, anyone can create a casual and carefree look that is ready for any season.
Hint: Try layering your plaid flannel overtop a graphic T-shirt; the look will still be casual and comfortable, but will have some additional visual interest.
