Oh the weather outside is frightful but the fire is so delightful. And since we’ve no place to go. Let it snow. Let it snow. Let it snow. Now wouldn’t it just be great if that were how winter truly was? No school. No jobs. No errands to complete. Nothing to do but relax by the warm fire in our pajamas drinking hot chocolate all day long while the beautiful snowflakes work their magic to create a scenic landscape outdoors. Yeah. Right. A girl can dream right?
Unfortunately, this is possibly the most unrealistic lifestyle ever imagined by a college student. The life of a college student is a never-ending list of tasks that must be accomplished before the short day comes to an end; most days 24 hours just doesn’t cut it. Therefore, us college students have to band together as we prepare to fight back against Mother Nature—and look fashionable while doing it. And how might you do that you may ask? Embrace the winter wonderland.
Drag the oversized sweaters, warm vests, fuzzy socks, winter boots, cozy hats and gloves and bulky winter coats out of hibernation. Because here in Columbus, Ohio, I am sitting in the comfort of my warm house, bundled under a fuzzy blanket, nursing a scolding cup of coffee while the first snowfall blankets the lingering autumn leaves.
Lucky for me, I found this Fashionisto just hours before the first blizzard of the season struck the buckeye state, requiring all Fashionistas/os to trade out their fashion friendly clothes for a thick blanket and warm pajamas as they seek cover inside their cozy dorm rooms, apartments and houses. For the decently warm autumn or winter days—and in Ohio high 40s and low 50s is about as good as it is going to get—this Fashionisto’s getup would be absolutely flawless. In other words, before the unexpected snow, this Fashionisto was dressed to key.
In particular, fleece vests as well as the classic down vest are taking OSU’s campus by storm. If you don’t own a vest, I suggest sprinting to the nearest store and investing in this trend. It will most likely be a reoccurring theme for the next several years. I’ve personally made quite the investment in the trend—probably too big—with my vest collection totaling over 10. Oops?
Another one of my favorite looks is colored pants. This Fashionisto is rocking a pair of maroon chinos. Quite an appropriate piece considering maroon can be seen all over the runway this season. Moving on down to the ground, you notice this Fashionisto’s chukka boots. Chukka boots are the ideal men’s shoe for autumn and winter; they manage to keep the cohesiveness of an well put together while also holding their own against the cool and potentially snowy weather.
Just because the weather outside is frightful, you don’t have to let your appearance suffer. Let it snow. Let it snow. Let it snow.
Hint: Not ready to commit to your bulky winter coat yet? Try a thick winter sweater under your vest for a look that is more equipped to handle the harsh temperatures of late November and early December.
