You can’t beat a classic. There is just something about those staple pieces that makes them special enough to always have a place in your wardrobe, regardless of changing trends and attitudes towards fashion. Today, the classic piece I will be focusing is the Barbour jacket that I spotted this Fashionisto wearing on campus. But this Fashionisto also does something that I really like—mixing a classic with a trend—and he does it incredibly well!
First of all, let’s talk a little about Barbour and what the brand represents. The brand originated in 1894, which means that this year marks its 120th year anniversary! Barbour is most famous for its jackets and coats, which are notoriously waterproof, functional and guaranteed to keep you warm in any weather. These jackets also last for years, which is a testament to their high quality and craftsmanship. They are a great investment if you’re looking for a high quality jacket. This is the jacket that I personally own, but if you’re looking for the quilted type, like this Fashionisto, this one may be for you.
This Fashionisto does a great job mixing bold camo prints with classic and neutral pieces that tone down the look. His simple navy sweater and gray Barbour jacket help to balance the double print that he is wearing, and the neutral brown of his sneakers complement the other colors of the outfit. This outfit is also successful because the two types of camo he’s wearing aren’t the exact same. Camo isn’t exactly my favorite trend in men’s fashion (since I’m super preppy and tend towards that aesthetic), but when done like this I think camo creates a really great look!
Hint: For guys looking to incorporate camo into their wardrobes for the first time, avoid doubling up on it. My advice is wear one piece that is camo, such as a pair of camo pants or a camo shirt, and try to mix it with classic and more understated pieces. This will allow the camo item you choose to be the centerpiece of your outfit. As for incorporating a Barbour jacket, that’s easy. These jackets are so versatile that you can throw it on over pretty much any outfit, go out the door and look fashionable and ready for anything the day could throw at you! However, these jackets can be a bit expensive; but when you consider their utility, quality and how long they last, they’re pretty reasonable.
