The citizens of the Central Coast will vouch for me when I say many people here love wearing outdoorsy attire. I believe the reason for the plethora of Patagonia and The North Face is in due part to San Luis Obispo’s many wonderful hiking and mountain biking spots. That is not to say, however, those who rock the sporty, casual look are unfashionable. In fact, their chicly understated ensembles are the epitome of “less is more.”
This week’s Fashionisto makes his sporty outfit unique and stylish by utilizing a pop of color in his otherwise monochromic ensemble. The fact that our Fashionisto’s look is mainly comprised of muted grays allows his bright blue jacket to stand out without looking too loud.
Further, this Fashionisto looks chic in layers perfect for California’s mild winters. He pairs light gray skinny jeans with a dark gray button-down shirt. His eye-catching outerwear is thin enough to be worn comfortably even if the temperature were to rise. He finishes off his attire with suede tennis shoes that dress up an otherwise casual outfit.
Additionally, this Fashionisto’s marbled teal and green Nixon watch is an interesting, yet subdued statement piece. While the watch’s colors do not exactly match our Fashionisto’s amazing outerwear, it is in the same color scheme. Thus, the watch goes rather than clashes with the jacket.
Hint: Wearing subdued, neutral pieces with bright outwear is an instant way to appear stylish without going overboard. Also remember when pairing a bright accessory with other colorful clothing, make sure all items are complementary in color. It is more than possible to be both sporty and stylish. The key is to find pieces that look relaxed yet sophisticated.
