LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Bow Tie Bliss

Let's Hear it for the Boys

The last few days before classes start, most collegiates are living in sweatpants as they try to move back into their dorms or head to the gym to work on their New Year’s Resolutions—not this Fashionisto, though. He is taking the last few days of freedom to express his right to be well-dressed. A true Fashionisto or Fashionista doesn’t wait for a special occasion to dress well, but instead makes every day a special occasion. Lilly Pulitzer once said, “Life is a party—dress like it.”

One of the biggest advantages to cooler weather is that it gives men a chance to express themselves more through fashion. Men don’t always have the opportunity to pile on purses or jewelry the way that women do, so layering gives them an opportunity to showcase their personal style.

You can take daily wear items, like jeans and a denim shirt and add trendy twists such as colored denim in rust or eggplant. These fun winter colors make any fashionisto go from another face among the crowd to a showstopper.

Here in Alabama, class is not just something we attend, but rather a way of life. A Southern gentleman knows that when he needs to make a good impression, a bow tie is essential. Bow ties can be used to dress up an otherwise casual outfit, without making the wearer look pretentious. The rustic mix between the tie and the functionality of the boots causes this Fashionisto to show that while he is dressed up, he is still definitely approachable.

Every man should have a pair of boots in his closet reserved for the winter months. Loafers, boat shoes, and oxfords won’t always cut it when the weather drops. Creating a cohesive pattern by matching your belt and boots pulls together a look that at first glance seems to be out of place. The boots are practical in that they provide you with comfort and support while the bow tie shows that you’re ready to party.

Hint: If colored pants are a little too bold for you, try replacing them with a brown or navy. These colors are still neutral but less expected than a black or a khaki.
