While many people have presupposed ideas surrounding the word boho (short for bohemian), only few seem to properly acknowledge its true meaning. Commonly used in describing nontraditional or eccentric trends, the direct definition of bohemian can be simplified as someone who is an unconventional and free-spirited artist. A true bohemian is said to “place the freedom of self-expression above all other desires.” And what better occasion for a bohemian to express himself than a joyous jamboree?
I spotted this Fashionisto on his way to a Thursday night college-style jamboree: Bargos! This Fashionisto incorporated a boho flair to his outfit by wearing a geometric print vintage T-shirt. He let me know that this little number, purchased from a local thrift store, was his “most favorite button-up.” Such dynamic pieces are usually found in the most uncommon places during the most unexpected times. It is their individualistic look that establishes their boho-chic style. He perfectly matched his outfit by pairing his T-shirt with dark yellow Mossimo pants and dark gray Perry Ellis sneakers. In continuation of the bohemian theme, he wore a leather necklace that held a half-hearted pendant. During a mission service trip to the Republic of Nicaragua, he received this accessory as a gift from an 11-year-old native. Bohemians are known and appreciated for their love for travel and wanderlust. Considering many college students may not be able to afford traveling the world just yet, an expedition through the states is a wonderful way to acquire unique items of sentiment.
Just as his cohorts, today’s Fashionisto attends social events in order to enjoy himself and unwind after a diligent week of class. But what sets him apart is his ability and desire to accomplish the task in style.
Hint: What’s your most prized thrift-store purchase? Many people refuse to give the idea of “thrifting” a chance. Unfortunately, gathering brand name items may not always lead to a fashionable or solid wardrobe. Thrifting is not only a cost-efficient way of shopping, but also a practical way to acquire apparel that is different from what you may usually find at a department store or shopping outlet.
