If you instantly had the urge to start singing the Beyoncé and André 3000 cover of “Back to Black” from the recently released The Great Gatsby film then this article title was written for you. And if you didn’t, we know you were thinking about it.
I hate to break it to you Netflix fans, but orange is definitely not the new black this season. Showering the Elie Tahari and Marc Jacobs menswear catwalk from New York to London Fashion Week, black has made its marc on the fashion community. Even if you’re not really involved in the fashion scene, investing in simple black attire is a great addition to any modern man’s wardrobe.
Just returning from New York Fashion Week, I caught up with this Fashionisto to hear about his experience in the big apple and obviously had to take a picture of his chic street style. His monochromatic ensemble added the perfect touch to this clean and classic silhouette. I loved how this Fashionisto exuded a suave casualness by rocking a well-tailored vest juxtaposed with a casually rolled hem at the bottom of his denim.
The key to this look is finding the right length of trousers, jeans or chinos that you’re planning on wearing on campus. If you really want to showcase your new pair of Nike kicks or oxfords, you can easily do so utilizing this “rolling-the-hem” technique. Experiment with this idea until you find your effortlessly cool look and remember that if all else fails to meet your signature style, you can always go back to black.
Hint: If you want to add a little something extra to your outfit, try adorning some accessories like a bow tie or cravat to make it more formal.
