Throughout this semester I’ve spent much time highlighting casual men’s fashion, mostly because the word “casual” goes hand-in-hand with the concept of being a college student. However, every once in a while I am lucky enough to encounter a Fashionisto who has gone above the college standard by sporting a much more formal men’s look. This week I spotted someone who not only dressed up for an on-campus event but had fun with his look as well. His ensemble is a quirky mix of patterned pieces that all work together to create an appropriate look for the occasion.
First, when looking at his outfit, my eye was immediately drawn to his argyle sweater vest. I am personal fan of argyle because not only is it a great pattern for a dressier ensemble, but many incorporate multiple colors, making most looks more fun and interesting. This Fashionisto made a smart move, which I would recommend to others, by building his outfit based on the colors found within the argyle pattern. Although there are other patterns found within the outfit, the argyle is the most prominent; therefore, building the rest of the outfit around this print is a good idea. He chose to layer his vest with a pinstripe dress shirt and navy blue Republican-themed tie. Both his tie and shirt are in colors found within the argyle print and utilize much smaller prints themselves, therefore, not competing with the bold argyle.
His accessories top off the outfit, by truly showing off his fun and unique personality. By adding a silver watch, a casual hat and sneakers, this Fashionisto was able to make his look both classy and comfortable, definitely a look that works well on a college campus.
Hint: Remember that argyle comes in a variety of colors, and if you aren’t one for multiple bright colors, try a monochromatic argyle that utilizes blacks, grays and whites. The look will be just as nice, without being too loud.
