FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Libby Wetterer

Fashionista Spotlight

If variety is the spice of life, then pops of print and color are a sure fire solution to the monotony of solid winter neutrals. This Fashionista combines two standout patterns with an on-trend shade of burgundy to create an ensemble of cozy knits and durable winter necessities. Her statement glasses and her dynamic duo of prints elevate a typical snow day outfit to an eye-catching look that’s the ultimate variety among wintry solids.

Name: Libby Wetterer

Major: Pre-Medical and Psychology

Year: Sophomore

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing?

Libby Wetterer: Classic L.L.Bean boots, a Zara sweater and pants, an Eddie Bauer coat, mittens from a local shop and Ray-Ban glasses.

CF: What was the inspiration for your outfit today?

LW: I love to show my New England roots in what I wear and I also loved the oxblood trend this year.

CF: How did you choose these frames for your glasses?

LW: I had bright purple wayfarer-like glasses in high school. I wore contacts most of the time, so they were a fun “wear-sometimes” pair of glasses, but college brought less sleep and more glasses wearing. After a while I got tired of having bright purple glasses on my face everyday, so I picked out new glasses that were unique because of shape instead of color. I’m in love with tortoise shell, and these round frames were a perfect way to stay with an oversized lens instead of the typical wayfarer or square style.

CF: What are you most looking forward to about spring fashion?

LW: I can’t wait to experiment with different shapes and lengths. I also can’t wait to break out the woven leather flats I bought in Ecuador at the end of last season!

CF: Where do you find fashion inspiration?

LW: My twin sister Katie is a huge inspiration — she has a very unique sense of style in which she mixes her favorite classic styles with a few new trends at the moment. I suppose I like to take J.Crew’s styles and revamp them to be a little edgier, younger and half the price.

How To: Find an abstract-printed sweater and pair it with a textured pants that complements the color palette of the sweater. This BB Dakota top would pair perfectly with these 7 For All Mankind eggplant corduroys. Add another print with a vibrant pair of mittens, and keep warm with boots and a Quiksilver coat with fur detailing. Experiment with different styles of glasses like these pink-hued round frames from Balenciaga or this tortoise shell Moschino pair. To dress up the look further, add a pair of earrings or a necklace that continues the geometric theme.
