I’ll be the first to admit: no matter how daring I aim to be, there’s quite a few fashion trends I will never be able to pull off in our fair city of Nashville. As much as I enjoy turbans and harem pants, I’m going to have to wait until I reach New York to unleash my inner version of the Man Repeller. And while I raptly followed the recent events of fashion week—let’s hear it for the new trend of live runway broadcasts—I know, deep down, I’ll never wear the fur sunglasses of Alexander Wang or the miniature berets of Marc Jacobs. With this in mind, I’m happy to report the spotting of this Fashionista, who embraces wearable Fashion Week trends that don’t require the audacity of Lady Gaga.
The first trend this Fashionista embraces is the new style of long skirts. Spotted on countless runways, this trend proves that the miniskirt no longer rules the fashion world. By showing a little ankle and pairing hers with wedges, this Fashionista makes sure the skirt doesn’t overwhelm her silhouette. Additionally, a more fitted style makes sure that your shape won’t get lost underneath billowing fabric.
This Fashionista’s tribal necklace follows the current bold jewelry trend, with the craze for statement necklaces still going strong. While she found hers in a market in Italy, similar styles can be found in vintage boutiques, or you can opt for a more modern interpretation of ethnic styles.
Hint: What’s this, you say? Long skirts? How will you live without your foolproof black, banded mini? Relax, Fashionistas, there’s no need to show off every inch of your figure. Pair a longer skirt with a tight top or leotard, or the popular American Apparel U-Neck style mini-dress, to show off your back and keep the look young.
