STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Gray Tones

Style Advice of the Week

If you’ve spent even a day in Bloomington, Indiana you’ve definitely experienced one of the following weather combinations: sunshine and rain, clouds and rain, snow and rain or rain and rain. Having lived in Indiana my whole life, I’ve never experienced such spontaneous dampness than when I moved two hours north three years ago; it’s the Bloomington curse.

But, finally accepting that the phrase “slight chance of rain” really means “it will definitely downpour,” does have its ups: Fashionistas all across campus are pulling inspiration from the weather and incorporating gray hues into their looks for fall to create fabulous, weather appropriate outfits. In the past, gray has taken a back burner to blacks and whites as the staple color for any season but as of recently, gray sweaters and pullovers are becoming an essential piece for any it Fashionista's wardrobe, especially as the weather is cooling off.

It’s important to keep the concept of your gray-based outfit fun and exciting with accessories and footwear since it's a lackluster color. Adding an animal print flat like this one from Steve Madden or a gold sandal resembling this Fashionista's pair makes the look less drab and dull. Black leggings or dark denim is the perfect match and still comfortable for a day of classes in the rain.
