My name is Lauren Hirschhorn and I am a junior at Marist College. I am studying fashion merchandising with minors in business administration and studio art. Art and fashion are two of my favorite things in life. I believe everything is art, even a person’s signature style is art, and I enjoy seeing how each and every student on my campus expresses themselves through their outfits.
Clothes tell a lot about a person — they show their creativity and their daring nature. They can even show how people feel about themselves. Who knew that a simple T-shirts and jeans could say so much!
I absolutely love the city, whether it be New York City, Boston or LA. The street styles that I see simply astonish me. I am always in awe watching men and women alike walk down 7th Ave. in a variety of clothing worn in many different ways. I believe that my love for the city and my love for art truly inspire my own personal style.
My style is constantly changing on a daily basis, even an hourly basis sometimes. One day I may feel a bit preppy so I will wear one of my sorority letter tees with some pearls, a nice pair of jeans and boots. Then there are days where I feel a bit more edgy so I lean toward dark leggings, a white v-neck, a leather jacket and knee-high boots. I love the versatility of clothing, I love staple items and I love that I can change my look whenever I want to. Fashion lets people express themselves in whatever way they choose and it allows them to change whenever they want to.
Now as much as my style changes, I do have a few signature items that you are sure to see me in. My favorite item to wear is a scarf! In the winter I take full advantage of the knit infinity scarves. They provide warmth and comfort on those chilly days in the Hudson Valley. In the summer I aim for some lightweight scarves like ones found at Old Navy. These are great and come in a variety of bright colors — you can wear them to work, to the beach and some people even attach them to purses as an accessory or wear them as headbands. I know they will be in my wardrobe for a while, that’s for sure.
Now that you know a tidbit about myself, let me say that I am so excited to be a Style Guru this semester at school. I hope that you enjoy my future posts just as much as I know I will enjoy writing them.
