ACCESSORIES REPORT: Mancessorize

Accessories Report

In recent years we have witnessed women’s wardrobes take on a more masculine image, as women began raiding their boyfriend's and brothers' closets. I remember coming upstairs to eat breakfast before school only to realize my brother and I were wearing the same button-down shirt. Granted, I had styled the shirt as a dress with heels and he had paired it with jeans. At that moment, I realized the line that once separated men’s and women’s style was growing very thin.

Women opt to wear structured blazers, pant suits, boyfriend jeans and boyfriend shirts, as they often rock a cute dress or skirt. As women’s wardrobes continue to take on a more masculine image, men have had to adapt their wardrobes. Why shouldn’t men be able to mancessorize? (A more masculine term for accessorize.) Take this Fashionisto for example, his look is dressed-down professional, masculine and on trend. He mancessorized his outfit with a casual briefcase, perfect for school or the office and incorporated color, one of the biggest trends of the season into his outfit in a very unique way. He’s color coordinated his socks and tie, adding an extra splash of color. Let me tell you, this guy looks like a million bucks walking down the street. Now, this Fashionisto is what I’d classify as the modern gentleman. This modern gentleman isn’t afraid to put some effort into his looks. In fact one of his biggest accessories is his hair. He has structured his hair with pomade to create a very trendy, yet professional, look allowing him to stand out in any crowd.

To get the modern gentleman look like the Fashionisto above start by purchasing some pomade like Aveda’s men Pure-Performance Pomade. http://www.aveda.com/product/5310/17115/Hair-Care/Men/Aveda-Men-Pure-Formance-Pomade/index.tmpl

Although our Fashionisto proved to be incredibly thrifty you can still manage to find a similar briefcase at Roots:

Cotton ties are in this summer along with the light suit as seen on our Fashionisto. To get the look check out GQ’s list of the best places to find cotton ties.
