STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Spring Sweaters

Style Advice of the Week

Yes, you read that correctly: spring sweaters. This may sound like the worst style advice ever but I promise the end result is genius. I’ll let you in on a little secret about the fashion savvy; we don’t like to obey style rules, we like to push them. Wearing a sweater in May when everyone else has already packed theirs away somewhere in a bin labeled “winter clothes?” Total fashion bad-ass.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not talking about your frumpy, oversized knit sweater — that can get packed away. I’m talking about thin, net sweaters that are perfect for covering up on a cool spring day or night. New York has been having a few chilly days this May and this Fashionisto took advantage of that by layering a thin, net sweater under a black leather jacket. When I saw his outfit and most importantly, his thin slouchy sweater, I was inspired to think of a million and one spring outfit possibilities. Think of those chilly summer nights when your sundress simply isn’t cutting it. A net sweater is perfect to throw over anything plus it looks great when styled with a pair of jeans — total fashion win. There are tons of thin sweaters to choose from to layer the perfect look but I found a few to put at the top of your shopping list. Check out this black net pullover available at Urban Outfitters; it would be perfect over a bandeau, camisole or even a bathing suit for those breezy beach days. For a lighter option, try this white open knit sweater at Forever 21 — perfect with a summer skirt or pair of pattern shorts.

Now, put down the thin tank tops that you know you’ll be freezing in right now and invest in some thin, spring sweaters. It’s effortless chic and perfect for a little mid-season outfit switch up.
