STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Leather and Lace

Style Advice of the Week

I’ve got spring trends on the brain and how could I not?! This spring is fully equipped with warm weather fashion that is enough to excite any Fashionista. The trends this season go way beyond the normal florals; instead the fashion industry is basking in colorblocking, cropped pants, hi-low skirts and lace. Yes, lace! Every couple of seasons the lace trend comes back in a big way and this season is no exception. Lace has flirted its way back onto the scene first appearing in spring/summer 2012 fashion shows for designers like Prada, Louis Vuitton and Alexander McQueen. Since then, it’s been popping up on the New York City street style scene creating lots of feminine spring outfits.

This Fashionista mixed the romantic, girly trend of lace with an edgier piece: her black leather jacket. The contrasting textures produced the perfect street style look. Lace pieces can be incorporated into your outfit in a variety of different forms; skirts, dresses, tops and even pants like this Fashionista sports. When paired with a little bit of leather, lace hits a whole new level of stylish. Stores are currently filled with plenty of lace options to add to your spring weather wardrobe before it’s too late. The lace high-waisted pants worn by this Fashionista are available at Urban Outfitters but unfortunately not on their website. Some other unexpected pops of lace can be found with this lace collar from Zara (which would look amazing with a leather jacket!). Also, Forever 21 has the perfect cream lace blazer that would go great with a leather skirt. Mix and match your pieces, play around with lace! The key is a little bit of lace and a little bit of leather; you don’t want to end up looking like a bride or a biker with this trend.

Lace isn’t just for your wedding day — add some leather and suddenly you’re one badass Fashionista. And who wouldn’t want that?
