Last week New York was graced with the wonderful chaos that is known as Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Between the street style craze that takes place outside the tents at Lincoln Center and the actual shows modelling what we’ll be wearing in fall 2013, there is plenty of style inspiration to take in during New York Fashion Week. Some of the major trends that emerged for the fall 2013 season included thigh high boots, lots of leather, bold colors and a major return of the beanie.
Models for shows like BCBGMAXAZRIA and DKNY walked the runways accessorized in beanies. I mean, have you ever thought of pairing a beanie with a fur coat and floor length dress? Designers Max and Lubov Azria thought, “Why not?” and sent every single one of their models down the runway in black and gray beanies. The end result: a perfect combination of grunge and glamour. Not only does the beanie have that cool factor, it also is the perfect cure to a bad hair day and the perfect keep warm accessory to accompany your outerwear.
Why wait until next fall to take advantage of this trend though? I spotted this Fashionista outside of the Lincoln Center shows already rocking a black beanie. Paired with black tights, booties, a vintage Chanel sweatshirt and a cardigan, the beanie was the ultimate top off to a great cold weather outfit. As we get closer and closer to next fall, I’m sure there will be plenty beanies floating around but if you want to get your hands on the perfect hat to finish up this winter, check out some of these options. For a classic, black ribbed beanie, check out this Tobi hat that’s sure to fit into your college budget. ASOS also has a winter white ribbed beanie, if you’re looking to brighten up your cold weather look. If you’re looking to get a little playful with your hat, ASOS also has a polka-dot mustache beanie that’s also on sale right now. Either way, I advise you to invest in a beanie this season because it’s going to be your savior for that one really bad hair day or your warm escape from the freezing cold. Thanks for the inspiration, New York Fashion Week!
