LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Layer Up!

Let's Hear it for the Boys

A warm breeze is finally sweeping through Davis. Throughout the transition from cold to warm months, a good dressing technique to be ready for any weather is layering. This Fashionisto accomplishes this task by wearing a sweater with casual jeans and loafers.

The rich brown of the sweater is a pleasant neutral color that lends to non-fussy dressing. This sweater also has a nice two-tone color detail. A darker brown is found outlining the cuffs, color and bottom of the sweater. This coloring is a nice take on the color blocking trend.

By pairing this sweater with dark wash denim, the Fashionisto has created a school appropriate look. The denim/sweater combination ensures that a student looks clean and polished, but also not too stuffy. A dark wash, such as is shown here, works nicely for dressier looks, too.

Hint: To look fashionable in layers, the key is finding one article of clothing to draw attention to. If a Fashionisto has many statement pieces in his outfit, then he can come across as looking messy and not put together. I recommend pairing a two-tone or graphic sweater with basic, dark wash jeans and simple shoes. If sweaters are not your thing, then opt for a puffy jacket over a simple monochrome tee shirt. For these options, I recommend keeping footwear simple—try working a sturdy pair of boots into a look. If you desire some added “swag,” then add a fun accessory to your look like this Fashionisto did with sunglasses. The important thing is to remember balance when making your outfit. Have one article of clothing that really shines, and center the rest of your outfit around it. Remember to layer!
