I spotted this week’s Fashionista on her way to the voting polls, making democracy look super chic in a black sheer maxi dress. She spiced up her minimalistic summer apparel with a beaded, vintage Native American belt that had me practically swooning. The black dress combined with her simple brown leather sandals, sunglasses and bohemian bag had this Fashionista giving off an effortlessly cool vibe.
Name: Megan Smith
Major: English and Art History
Year: Senior
CollegeFashionista: If you had to pick one piece in your closet that you couldn’t live without, what would it be?
Megan Smith: My chambray shirt. I can throw it over anything for a casual, chic look.
CF: Who or what do you draw style inspiration from?
MS: Currently I’m obsessed with the blogger Aimee Song from Song of Style. I’m always really inspired by the environment I’m in as well. When I’m home my style is different than when I’m at school.
CF: What’s a summer trend you’re most excited to try?
MS: I’ve wanted to look a little more bohemian lately and bring out my inner hippie with some flowing skirts and lots of beaded accessories. I also have a recent love for short overalls. I really want to try those.
CF: If you could swap closets with any celebrity, who would it be?
MS: Kourtney Kardashian. Hands down.
How To: The beauty of this ensemble is its simplicity to recreate. First, start with a black maxi dress. You can find the one this Fashionista is wearing here, at Forever 21. Next, add a fun tribal or beaded belt to keep the dress from appearing too dark or matronly. Some great options can be found at Asos or Free People. Finally, follow this Fashionista’s lead by investing in some basic brown sandals, like these from H&M. Not only are they stylish, but also practical and inexpensive. Lastly, try a leather fringe bag to complete the look.
