For me, coming home for the holidays means experiencing a drastic drop in sartorially inclined individuals; for instance, camouflage (and not the chic, on-trend kind) is considered acceptable everyday attire. Therefore, I was ecstatic when I spotted a Fashionista who had impeccable style at a hometown holiday gathering. Thankfully for me, she was willing to step out into Wisconsin’s winter wonderland so I could snap a photo of her impressive duds. In a polka-dotted fit-and-flare dress, leather biker vest, and eggplant hued tights, this fashion-forward lady paired these juxtaposing styles flawlessly.
Name: Kelsey Hau
Major: Supply Chain and Operation Management
Year: Senior
CollegeFashionista: Where did you find everything that you’re wearing?
Kelsey Hau: Both the dress and vest are from TJ Maxx, and my watch is Fossil. The tights are from Forever 21, and I found these black wedges at Aldo.
CF: What’s one thing you have on your Christmas list?
KH: I’m in desperate need of luggage for traveling. It’s difficult to find the perfect carryon suitcase. I also really hope Santa brings me Hunter rain boots.
CF: What are some of your favorite retail locations?
KH: As you can see by my outfit, I really like TJ Maxx. I find the best deals on everything name brand, from wallets to shoes to clothes. Mostly I’m an online shopper, though. I tend to order clothes from Urban Outfitters and Zara.
How To: The focal piece of this look is the adorable, oh-so-Zoe Deschanel frock. To replicate this ensemble, start by finding a similarly patterned dress with a feminine silhouette. Next, inject dimension and texture with a (faux) leather biker vest to contrast the uber-girly style of the dress. After adding a pair of tights in an unexpected shade like purple or teal and black lace-up wedge booties, you'll have successfully conclude this chic holiday-friendly look.
