STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Slim Fit Trousers

Style Advice of the Week

What makes spring a great season is that it allows Fashionista/os to mix pieces from their winter and summer collections. This Fashionisto does exactly that with a basic, yet sophisticated, springtime look. I’m proud to feature the second Fashionisto since I’ve started my internship. It’s easy to spot out a Fashionista, but the Fashionistos are true hidden treasures among students on campus.

A lightweight boot can be a perfect shoe for spring, especially when paired with a slim chino, as this Fashionisto demonstrates. Personally, I find it difficult to find slim-fitting pants that aren't too skinny, so it’s all about trying on different pairs and figuring out what works best with your body type. This Fashionisto got his chinos while in Europe, and you can get a similar pair of tan chinos on their website. Once you feel comfortable enough with a few neutral colors, why not experiment with some color? Urban Outfitters has a skinny trouser that comes in a blue and is a fashionable alternative to dark denim.

This overall look is simple and clean. I love the mixture of brown, tan and navy. It just goes to show that you don’t have to wear all designer names or be super complex with your outfit choices to look stylish. The takeaway here is that sometimes simple is really better and, to me, being stylish is about having a polished outfit that looks like it didn’t take much effort.

Having a great outfit can really set you apart, and one like this communicates maturity. Anyone can throw on a sweatshirt and basketball shorts. It really shows when a Fashionisto/a puts effort into a look, demonstrating that they care about the subject and school in general. We need more Fashionistos like this to set the standard!
