WHAT TO WEAR: Midterms

What to Wear

With the rush of midterms at an all-time high and students continuing to cram a semester’s worth of studying into a mere few days, campus has been drained of its usual upbeat energy and replaced with a wave of sick-ridden and stressed out students who could arguably be mistaken for zombies. In true midterm fashion, I headed to the library after class to scope out any Dickinsonians that had mustered up the strength to change out of their sleep attire for their daily study festivities.

After about twenty-five minutes and twelve sweatsuits (yes, I’m talking full on matching sweatpants and sweatshirts, my friends) later, I started on my journey home when suddenly I spotted this happy-go-lucky Fashionista, who coincidentally has been pressing me to be featured on the site, bouncing his way through academic quad. As if the beaming sunrays weren’t glaring enough, this Fashionisto emitted his own unique energy that amped up his casual, relaxed ensemble.

From the classic Ray-Bans to the loose-fitting, charcoal khakis and the once limited-edition converses, this outfit possesses the utmost comfort and nonchalance so desperately yearned for during this academically demanding time of the semester. “I like taking one quality/popular piece and making it my own,” he says in reference to the Barbour jacket he models in the photograph, similar to this L.L.Bean one (a staple here on Dickinson’s campus for boys and girls alike). Commonplace or not, the olive green cargo jacket certainly polishes this overall rugged, yet wholesome look.

Outfit aside, this Fashionisto’s acute taste for accessories adds an unfamiliar element of pizzazz to the everyday boy-next-door look. His sleek silver watch also reminds us that accessories not only act as additional embellishments to an outfit, but also as tools of functionality to stay ahead of the midterm game.

Overall, what is my favorite item of this Fashionista’s midterm uniform? The red knitted scarf, of course! For all you gents: if you’ve ever been afraid of rocking any type of scarf, please take notes of the this Fashionisto’s effortless approach in transforming an otherwise standout piece into just another simple, subdued component of the entire look.

One Simple Change: Looking to transition into a weekend out with friends? Ditch the backpack and sunglasses (unless you’re a celebrity and into that whole stunna shades at night trend). Find the button-down shirt too constricting? Try opting for some flexibility in a white V-neck and perhaps a hat like a beanie or paperboy style—either way you go, you really can’t fail.
