STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Nectarine And Navy

Style Advice of the Week

Over the years I have learned never to write off any combination of colors, no matter how outrageous it may seem. At first, the idea of wearing pink and red together was horrendous, except maybe on Valentine’s Day. And don’t forget the ever-controversial combination of brown and black. But one combo has really been catching my eye lately — maybe it’s all the Cuties I have been eating this season, but I really have orange on the mind! I especially love the way this Fashionista wore her orange and navy together without looking like a total Chicago Bears fan. Even Fashionistas at spring 2013 Paris Fashion Week were rocking this unforgettable color combo.

For class, a great way to wear this color trend is with a classic pair of orange chinos (like these by Strenesse Blue) and a navy sweater. Or, if it’s a little warmer out, a simple navy T-shirt would do the trick. Some neutral oxfords would complete this super easy-to-wear, comfortable, and oh-so-stylish outfit for class or a meeting.

I totally adore these relatively inexpensive cognac and orange-red color block skinny pants. With this pair I think a blousy white top, like this 3.1 Philip Lim silk blouse, and a great navy shoulder bag (Rebecca Minkoff makes the perfect one here) would look just trendy enough to turn heads without ending up on the “What Was She Thinking?!” list, if one of those exists.

Orange can also just be a great accessory color to spice up a navy outfit. I love the way style bloggers Britt & Whit added an orange knit snood to a completely navy and white ensemble for that great pop of color. A statement necklace could really kick your outfit up a notch as well. I am just in love with this navy and orange bib necklace by New Look.

Hopefully by now I have convinced you of all of the exciting possibilities in nectarine and navy. So don’t be afraid, this color combo is not as horrendous or scary as you may have originally thought!
