My name is Kira Bednar and I am a senior studying Fashion Industry Management and minoring in Marketing at Philadelphia University. Since as long as I can remember, art has played an immense role in my life, especially the art of fashion. As a child, I could use clothes to completely transform into a different person. That same inspiration that sparked my imagination as a child has made me fall even more in love with the limitless world of fashion.
One of the main aspects I love about fashion is how it is always changing. As Yves Saint Laurent once said, “Fashions fade, but style is eternal.” It’s true. Style is a wordless expression of who we are. No matter what is in or what is out, it is how we use our own, individual sense of style to be ourselves. It is not just a simple clothing choice. Each day we choose clothes that accentuate our uniqueness and demeanor. Simply put, fashion gives us the chance to be original. Why waste that?
The fashion industry as a whole has encompassed my life and has felt like a whirlwind of astounding innovation and ingenuity. Now I can’t imagine my life without. I am eager to see where this incredible industry will take me after graduation. It won’t be easy, but there is no other industry as perfectly suited for me than fashion. Coco Chanel said it best, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”
