Brilliant palettes of crimson and gold have enhanced the beauty of IU's campus. While taking in the splendor of autumn on a casual morning walk to class, an even prettier hue of magenta caught my eye. I can't express enough on how much color can completely take an outfit to the next level. Aside from her gorgeous dress and Olivia Harris handbag, this Fashionista pulled off a look most would be hesitant to try — tights with wedges! Her look was fierce, stunning and most of all, confident.
Name: Siobhan Carter-David
Major: Ph.D. in History and American Studies.
CollegeFashionista: What inspired your look today?
Siobhan Carter-David: I had an idea that I could wear tights with my wedges. I wasn’t sure if I pulled it off, I didn’t have time to check out my outfit this morning. But I guess I did, because I got a compliment! I also wanted to throw in a little color in there with the more muted tones.
CF: What is your style philosophy?
SCD: Make sure you look good, so you can face the world no matter what, I believe in that. If you don’t look good, you’re not going to feel good. You have to make sure of that before anything else.
CF: Where do you look for style ideas?
SCD: The Sartorialist, Le coil, Vogue and Lucky.
CF: What are a few of the fall trends you’re most excited to wear this season?
SCD: Distressed leather with a faux-fur collar and my crazy colored nails.
CF: Do you have any style advice for our CollegeFashionista readers?
SCD: Go to Target, try that out. Hit up the sales rack. Go through your closet probably every six months. Go shopping in your closet over and over again. You don’t always need to buy something new. A lot of these trends don’t necessarily go away for a long period of time. There are pieces that go from season to season, and you should spend your money on that rather than trendy items.
How To: After learning about this Fashionista's look, I'm even inspired to try out this amazing fall trend. Tights or socks with open-toe shoes have been hitting the runway since last fall and can revamp your look in a matter of seconds. This trend can be a little tricky, so keep these tips in mind while trying it out. First, keep the seam of your tights from showing in the front of your shoes. Second, blend your tights into your shoes by wearing black with black. Or like Siobhan, contrast a bold color of tights with your peep-toe shoes. And as always, be confident! Aside from the tights and wedges, this Fashionista did a great job of mixing colors and neutral tones to complete her outfit. As mentioned in previous posts, color will be huge in the upcoming seasons! Don't forget to add a pop of color to an outfit before running out of the door.
