Let's talk about the staple hair go-to: the ponytail. A favourite of girls across the world whether young, old, with long hair, short hair, baby hair, big girl hair and sometimes even boy hair. There are some people that, once they have found what hair regime works for them, they stick with it. While the basic pony has a time and a place (hello, a gym class prerequisite), there are so many fun and some challenging versions of old faithful. While this Fashionista isn’t sporting anything extravagant, I like her cute side pony with wispy hairs casually swept to the side.
For my curly hair gals, I was told from a curl guru to stay away from elastic bands that have the strip of metal in them that can get caught in your curls and ruin your hair. My favourite elastics are from Anthropologie. I don’t mind wearing these around my wrist and they don’t put stress on the individual strands. If you’re one of those people that don’t like the look of the elastic at all, you can pull a small strand out of your pony and wrap it around the elastic to cover it, which looks tres chic.
Personally, I’m not a fan of the ballet bun hair scraped back look. It is so much more natural looking to have your pony just form as is or use a fine tooth comb to create a bit of a poof at the front. Don’t go Snookie on me, though. You can also combine the popular fishtail braid into a ponytail by starting a braid at the nape of your neck and turning it into a pony after you’ve braided your hair for a bit.
“A good ponytail is like a good heel — it gives you a little lift.”
