STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: A Neutral Palette

Uncategorized

Spring semester is finally in full force on campus. The library seems to be more crowded than ever, and students are consumed in their hectic schedules. But one thing that isn’t constant is the weather. Going to school in Florida should lead us to believe we can wear tanks, shorts and sandals all year round. However, this season we have seen more and more cold fronts come our way. I personally crave the cold weather because I love to see how students dress for this change in temperature. But, let’s not get carried away. The sixties are our version of a cold front. Do you have what it takes to bear this weather while looking chic? This Fashionista sure does.

I spotted her dashing out of the Visual Arts building looking artistically fashionable in every way possible. Today’s Fashionista had just come from painting and was worried her white T-shirt was too dirty to be photographed. Her entire look caught my eye, but I absolutely loved her cross-body bag. This is a staple piece that every student must own.

Her outfit is effortless and simple. It includes jeans, a white V-neck and brown leather boots. These are items you can find at almost every store. She then adds a crème colored leather jacket that features a gray tab collar and a knitted forest green scarf with a fringe hem. The scarf adds just the right touch of color. Neutral colors are light and laidback. Chloé and Phillip Lim kept to a nude palette for their spring 2011 ready-to-wear collections.

Now, back to the most important accessory: the cross-body bag. They are functional and sophisticated all in one, while allowing students to be hands free throughout a busy school day. This Fashionista complements her casual look by choosing a neutral colored bag featuring a brown trim. Fitting her art supplies and other essential items will not serve as a problem. There are many different designs and sizes for these bags. With various colors, you are sure to find one to match any outfit. Whether you are an artist or not, neutrality is the best palette to keep in mind.

Hint: This cross-body by Foley & Corinna is my go-to school bag and perfect for everyday use. It features a removable shoulder strap and can be worn several different ways. These bags are offered in three sizes and several basic colors. The metallic and animal prints are a perfect accessory to make a statement and my personal favorites.
