Hi Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Kelsey McCormack, and I am a senior pursuing a Communication Studies major at the University of Iowa. Because of the university’s lack of a fashion program, I am super excited to be given the opportunity to become more hands-on with the fashion world while writing for CollegeFashionista this spring. With graduation only months away, I am ready to pursue my goal of working in the fashion industry. Hopefully someday I will fulfill my dream of becoming a buyer for a major department store such as Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus or Lord & Taylor.
Because most students at the University of Iowa roll out of bed and attend class in their sweats, I am eager to be on the look out for those who choose to treat everyday as a fashion show. I believe fashion is undeniably an art and one of the most important ways to express oneself, and I admire those who take the extra time to do so on our campus while they could easily just blend in with jeans and a hoodie each day. Furthermore, I will be writing the LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS column – for it is quite refreshing to spot a well-dressed man on campus amongst thousands of men who are in dire need of fashion advice.
I would describe my style as mostly urban chic, sometimes hippie with a splash of edgy. Overall, I think my style is very versatile, and I never really stick to just one look. I am not afraid to try new trends, which I love to use as an excuse to keep shopping! My favorite designer is hands-down Alexander McQueen, whose style I try to mimic in my own clothing as often as I can. My style icons are Kate Moss and Rachel Zoe’s and would say they are my ultimate fashion inspirations. However, the uniqueness of fashion is what I love most about it and I believe every one should incorporate their own personality into their style. Like Alexander McQueen once said, “It’s a new era in fashion – there are no rules.”
