Monday morning blues? Forget that! This Fashionista came to class looking as glam as ever! She was decked out in an eye-catching cheetah blouse, leather leggings and black accessories, all topped off with a hot pink lip. Leather is definitely getting louder this holiday season and our Fashionista seems to be right on trend. However, this should come as no surprise, since after chatting with her I learned she has just won the title of Miss South Carolina USA 2013. Congratulations Megan!
Name: Megan Pinckney
Major: Fashion Merchandising
Year: Senior
CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your personal style?
Megan Pinckney: Classy and chic
CF: Where do you look to for fashion inspiration?
MP: My collection of Vogue magazines and my favorite style icon Jackie O
CF: What is the one fashion item you could NOT live without?
MP: Gold hoop earrings
CF: What is your favorite part about competing in pageants? Does pageant style influence your everyday outfit choices?
MP: My favorite part is the voice pageants give you to make a difference in services that mean a lot to you, the opportunities it creates and the doors it opens, and the amount of self confidence it has given me. Pageants do influence my everyday fashion choices because my title makes me feel like I should always be dressed in a way that reflects the organization. I'm hardly ever dressed down now.
CF: Do you have any words of wisdom for other girls already completing or looking to participate in pageants?
MP: If you are able to take constructive criticism without letting it tear you down as a person, do it! It boosted my self-esteem!
How To: Trade in your usual black legging and upgrade to a chic, liquid leather legging. Just like a trendy leather jacket, leggings in the rocker-chic material instantly take any outfit from casual to cool. Black leather leggings can be paired with almost anything—like an oversized denim shirt or a sequin peplum for the holidays. For a look similar to this week’s Fashionista, I recommend softening the tough-girl look with a few girly touches. In Megan’s case, the feminine sheer cheetah blouse is the perfect touch! (Similar here) Pair the ensemble with a sleek bun and a hot pink lip this look is ready to rock.
Remember, you don’t have to be a rocker or biker to rock this trend — anyone can do it! So don’t be afraid to embrace leather this holiday season! Whether in the form of dress, shirt or leggings (like Megan) get “edgy” with leather accents.
Happy Holidays!
