FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Elizabeth Safrit

Fashionista Spotlight

It’s all in the accessories, ladies! With the right accessories you can take any outfit and turn it into an eye-catching ensemble; this weeks Fashionista does just that! She stays chic with sliming black skinnies and a piercing cobalt cutout blouse. However, she amps up this classic pairing with a studded belt, statement necklace, spiked bangles, sparkly nails and a swoon-worthy Michael Kors bag.

The outfit gets even better with an extra, fun factor: a surprise back opening! Personally, I die for any top or dress with an interesting back, so I was thrilled to see the subtle and sexy back slit when this Fashionista turned around.  This added bonus takes any blouse up a notch and will have people fawning over your outfit as you walk past.

Name: Elizabeth Safrit
Major: Political Science
Year: Junior

CollegeFashionista: Where are you from? How does this influence your fashion choices?

Elizabeth Safrit: I'm from North Carolina; being from the South taught me to embrace more traditional and classic choices in fashion.

CF: How would you describe your personal style?

ES: Eclectic, feminine, glamorous.

CF: What are the three fashion items you could not live without?

ES: Sky-high heels, statement necklaces and dark-wash jeans.

CF: Where do you get your fashion inspiration?

ES: Elizabeth Taylor is my style icon! Her style was so captivating and she accessorized every outfit with such great detail. A more modern source of inspiration for me is Victoria Beckham.

CF: What new trend are you most looking forward to embracing this upcoming winter season?

ES: I love the trend of mixing traditional pieces with edgier ones, like a gold sequined blazer with a classic black dress. It allows you to be glamorous without being over-the-top!

How To: Start off with your favorite pair of neutral skinnies and throw on a colored blouse. This will be your base or canvas; then you can get creative with accessories! Tuck in your top and add a skinny belt to show off your figure. Don’t be afraid to go big with a statement necklace. It will be the focal point of your outfit. Elizabeth rocks a gold piece (similar here) but if you are feeling extra daring you could even incorporate a pop of color to color block with your blouse (like this one). Pile on the accessories — add fierce bangles, fun rings, or even a crazy manicure. I love how Elizabeth rocks a confident red manicure with a sparkled ring finger. Try out one of Essie’s luxeffects like “set in stones“ to make your own sparkly statement!

If you are looking for the perfect bag that can transition from class to work, check out Elizabeth’s great Michael Kors find (similar here). This quilted tote is big enough to carry a laptop and still looks professional.
